I’m sitting here, waiting for my daughters first graduation night already. Wow. I can’t believe my little girl is growing up so much. She’s is graduating for the first time from the 3 year olds class at the James Street Christian Preschool. I’m so proud of you baby girl! Daddy loves you. I wonder what you will grow up to be. God bless you and remember to put Jesus first and honor Him.

POWERful

Talk about exciting! Sunday night we had guest speakers Ormel and Sandy Chapin. I mean to tell you it was incredible what happened that night. The power and presence of God was so strong in the church. People were being healed emotionally and spiritually. Church started at 6 pm and wasn’t over til 9. Can you believe that!

One of the questions asked to the church is will you be the city, will you be the people, and will you be the church where God can pour out His spirit in your lives and reach people for Jesus Christ.

What an incredible, amazing, powerful, and intense evening with God and fellow Christians. Thank you Jesus for meeting us. Heal our lives and our land!

opportunity knocks

So, this past friday, we had the AMAZING opportunity to serve lunch to all the teachers and staff and the local high school. WOW! It is truly awesome what God does and the doors that he opens for us to minister as we follow him. Thank you God for allowing us to bless the staff at the high school and show your love ina practical way. Use us God to reach those that don’t have a personal relationship with you yet.

Train a child…

Proverbs 22.6 says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” To be completely honest with you; this was one of my biggest fears before having kids. Being a youth pastor for years, I have seen different students go through many different things. One of the first thoughts that I had when we found out we were first pregnant with Maylee, was “Oh man, I don’t want My daughter to become ________.” This was a true legitimate fear of mine.

Even now, I continually pray over my kids that they will not turn away from God, and that Jesus will cause them to be Christians. That mom and I set Godly examples in our home. That tour kids will not see a bad example in the church, or get a bad taste in their mouth because of experiences that thy have sen in the church, or because mom and dad put the church before the family.

It is my hope and prayer, that Amber and I will live a life that sets a Godly example to our kids, and that we will be a strong influence in their life to seek first after God. To follow the ways of Jesus, and to not turn away when they grow older.

Jesus, cause my children to be Christian. Help us to set a Christ-like example in the home and in our ministry. Help us to place you first in all thing; more than just in words, but also in action. Thanks you Lord, Amen.

God is good

I have spent the last few days at the Oregon Ministry network summit, which is basically the Oregon assemblies of God District council. The past few days have been spent in some incredible time of worship. Let me tell you what…amazing- AWEsome worship. The spirit of God is so powerful, so real, so strong that there is not a single doubt in my mind that God is real, in charge, there for us.

Last night I was dealing with some personal fears and crying out to God about taking these stupid insignificant fears away from me. While I was praying, God spoke through someone. One of the interpretations given was that I am not done with you yet. I fear, though stupid and distracting from my relationship with Jesus, that something might happen to me.

So the first response is so what? Nothing is going to happen to me unless God allows it to. Nothing can happen that God doesn’t know about. Its not like He is sitting up in Heaven and forgets about us and then says “oh yeah I forgot about him.”

The second response is this. When I heard the interpretation that I am not done with you yet, I felt like God was speaking directly to me. I felt as though God was telling me, “Ryan, I am not done with you yet. I am still wanting you do be in ministry. I want you to forget about your fears and put your trust in me, the Lord your God. I will let nothing happen to you that I don’t know about. I want to use you. You aren’t done!”

How incredible!! Feeling that I am so afraid but hearing from God that he is not done with me…wow! Thank you God for taking the time to seek me, desire a relationship with me, and long for me to seek after you.

I love you God! Thank you for loving me. Thank you God for using me. Thank you for not being done with me yet…..

Speaking and Hearing

Yesterday, I received some encouragement that I ACTUALLY do hear from God. This is a big thing because the Bible says that if you don’t hear God, you don’t belong to Him. Sheep hear, recognize, and know the shepherd’s voice. I believe that we as Christians, the sheep, need to hear, recognize, and know our shepherd, God’s, voice. This is imperative. If we are not able to recognize the shepherd’s voice, what does that say about us? So, as I was talking to my mentor, we were discussing something that had happened in my life, and he said, “That’s awesome. The Holy Spirit just revealed something to you.”

I had always thought that I knew where God was leading me in my messages that I spoke, and where God was taking me in worship for youth, and the adults. But I guess it was just good to hear confirmation that I am not a whack-job. That I am hearing from God, and that I can hear from God. I don’t know about you, but if I can’t hear God, and I call myself a Christian, I don’t think that is a good thing. Especially since the Bible says if we can’t hear him, we don’t belong to Him. (John 8.47, “He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” (NIV))

So we have been reading “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan, and tonight in discipleship we covered the chapter about death, more or less. It was interesting to hear the views from the students on their “fears” and thoughts about this particular topic. Of course, each one unique, and of course, they all said their parents had views on this topic too. For instance, one rebuttal was, “why wouldn’t you want to go to heaven?” To this they responded, i just don’t feel ready yet. Whether it was because they had family that hadn’t made a commitment to Jesus yet, or because they wanted to experience certain things in life, I thought they all had something good to say.

I find it interesting how many different views there are about the same subject. Whether this particular one, or whether something more frivolous; or perhaps more meaningful. I think its great to have these conversations, if for nothing else, to not get trapped into the same redundant thoughts over and over and over and, did I say, over again…..

Tonight in discipleship, we discussed how our lives would be different; or how our relationship with God would be different if we were to see God. What would be the first thing out of our mouth? What would our reaction be? I think that I would truly be so overwhelmed and in awe that I imagine doing nothing but staring at Jesus and saying “Oh God” as to address His holiness and reality. I wonder what you might be feeling or what your reaction would be in that scenario….
